|
| | | | | | | | SUMMARY |
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of the health and safety of our community, most components of the 37th annual 4th of July Celebration have been necessarily cancelled. The 2020 Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 4, with some virtual activities beginning on Monday, June 29. The modified schedule of events is as listed below:
Monday, June 29-Saturday, July 4
Online Business Expo & Coupon Book
- The City of Chanhassen is partnering with the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce to provide an online coupon and advertisement book in substitution of the Business Expo. The coupon book will be free available on the City and Chamber websites
Virtual Chalk-It-Up Drawing Contest
- Participants can submit a photo of their at-home chalk drawing for a chance to win prizes in different age groups, for most difficult, most creative, colorful, most realistic, and honorable mention
Saturday, July 4
Chanhassen Farmers' Market
- The Chanhassen Farmers' Market will be held in City Center Park. The market features local farmers, artists, and businesses
Historic Plane Flyover
- The Rotary Club of Chanhassen will again be sponsoring the historic plane flyover in 2020. The historic planes will fly over Chanhassen at 2:30pm on the 4th, beginning in southwest Chanhassen and then flying over downtown and west Chanhassen
Fireworks Display
- The fireworks display will be presented at Lake Ann Park at 10pm. There will be no general seating or parking available at Lake Ann Park to view the fireworks. Lake Ann Park will be closed beginning at 5pm on July 4 to prepare for this, and to be compliant with the current Executive Order. Residents will be encouraged to view the fireworks from home, or via Facebook live on the city's Facebook page
- The fireworks display will include more 8" and 10" shells than previous years, so that more shells will be visible from farther distances. There will be no shells added that would go higher than originally planned for
- Information will be distributed via social media, the city website, and in the newspaper that Lake Ann Park will be closed beginning at 5pm on July 4th. Signage will be placed in the park prior to and on the 4th of July to notify park users of the closure
The modified schedule of events will be promoted on the City's social media pages, City website, in the Chanhassen Villager, and on social media pages of event partners.
